Closing of the ”Death and Life in Ancient Egypt” exhibition

Closing of the ”Death and Life in Ancient Egypt” exhibition

In June, 26 years after its opening, the "Death and Life in Ancient Egypt" exhibition was closed. Between 24 and 28 June, artefacts belonging to the Egyptian Museum and the Papyrus Collection in Berlin were secured and packed in close cooperation with conservators from Berlin and our curators.

On Friday, 28 June, all the boxes arrived safely in Berlin. Some of the artefacts remained in Poznań and will await a new Egyptian exhibition. An official cooperation agreement has already been signed between the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz), the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection in Berlin, the Regional Government of Greater Poland Voivodeship, and the Archaeological Museum in Poznań, which confirms the commitment of all parties to jointly plan and create a new permanent exhibition on the history of ancient Egypt.

We hope to invite you to the Górka Palace by 2026 to visit the new Egyptian exhibition. Until then, our exhibition halls will undergo thorough renovation. The building’s ceilings will be reinforced to allow the display of large and heavy stone objects and a new system of air-conditioning will be installed to ensure appropriate temperature and humidity levels for sensitive artefacts. In the meantime, our curators are already working with German curators and conservators on the concept of the new exhibition and the list of artefacts that will be featured in Poznań.

The new Egyptian exhibition will be curated by Dr hab. Agnieszka Mączyńska and M.A. Kamila Dolata-Goszcz from the Archaeological Museum in Poznań, and Dr. Robert Kuhn from the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection in Berlin. Wish us luck!
