Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the motorways we travel on and the city streets we walk along every day? Our latest temporary exhibition, “Roads to the Past: 30 Years of Rescue Archaeology in Poland”, explores three decades of archaeological research.

Discover how Poland’s modern development has opened a window onto its deeply buried past. Follow four thematic “routes”, each presenting a different aspect of rescue archaeology through a rich variety of finds:

  • Infrastructure Route – remarkable objects unearthed during the construction of motorways and gas pipelines.
  • Urban Route – important discoveries revealing thousands of years of human activity at the heart of our cities.
  • Water Management Route – excavations and research carried out at sites threatened by flooding and erosion.
  • Agricultural Route – unique traces of the past preserved and discovered in agricultural landscapes.

The displays span the Palaeolithic to the modern period, combining archaeological artefacts with the latest technologies used in recording and documentation.

The exhibition is organised by the Archaeological Museum in Poznań and the Faculty of Archaeology, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań
