Tourism in Poznań

Poznań is one of the major cities in Poland and one of the country’s main centers of trade, education, technology and culture. It is known for its unique atmosphere, openness to visitors, and many beautiful sites. Located in Wielkopolska, the region considered as a birthplace of the Polish state, Poznań is also a city with rich history reflected in the wealth of monuments and museums. It is home to several universities and other scientific institutions including Polish Academy of Sciences and numerous academic associations, which all contribute to the development of humanities, science and technology.

Currency/Credit Cards

The Polish currency is ZLOTY (PLN). As Poland is a member of UE, it is possible to pay in Euro in some places. However, in this case exchange rates are usually unfavorable. You can exchange money without fees in exchange offices (KANTOR), or withdraw it at a daily exchange rate from numerous cash dispensers (BANKOMAT; to be found inside/outside every bank). Besides, most hotels, restaurants and shops accept international credit cards.

Getting from the Airport  ŁAWICA

Ławica Airport is located 7 km from the city centre, in the vicinity of the route leading directly to the major city points and next to the road out of Poznań to Berlin and Warsaw.

We advise you to take a taxi from the airport (shouldn’t exceed 50 PLN to the city centre). Right in front of T3 terminal (arrival hall) you can find a 24/7 taxi stand. Only some taxis accept ATM or credit cards, so we advise you to withdraw money at the airport from a cash dispenser. As not all taxi drivers speak English, prepare a sheet of paper with written address of your hotel.

Getting from the railway station POZNAN GLOWNY

The railway station POZNAN GLOWNY is located in the city centre, just next to the Poznań International Fair (Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie). There you find a Tourist Information Centre where you can call a taxi. You can also walk to the centre (ca.30-40 min) using e.g. Google Maps.

Tips

As far as restaurants and cafes are concerned, service is included in the bill. Tips are not mandatory but are welcome (5-10%) if you consider the service good enough.

Most of young people speak English. If you get lost or you need some information, you can always find around somebody speaking English.

In the Old Market Square, at the airport and at the railway station POZNAN GLOWNY you can find Tourist Information Centers with English and German speaking staff.  If you need help, do not hesitate to ask. You can also get there a free map of the city centre.
